In my opinion most people can do a better job caring for themselves than can ivory tower oracles. Not all people agree with me. Sadly many people think that once the government touches a given dollar that makes it magically wiser than the dollar that is left in the hand of Joe or Jane Arizona to spend for their health needs the way they see fit. Government mandates do not always result in the best, most cost effective results. Your comment makes it sound like you distrust profit by default. I can understand that feeling. It is what I feel every time I read about the PPACA health care mandate.
P.S. There is a clear difference between "big business" and "for-profit". It can be hard to identify the difference in this day and age but there IS a difference.
P.P.S. If you want to know what the founders of Arizona believed the purpose of government is you need only click hereThane Eichenauerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12848580360960232789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23717700.post-14736473827480649372014-10-19T17:10:22.007-07:002014-10-19T17:10:22.007-07:00This may be heresy in some parts, but the purpose ...This may be heresy in some parts, but the purpose of government is to serve society's needs. Period.

If they can ensure a maximum benefit to society in a way that helps big business, great.

However, if the needs of society conflict with the desire of business receive an ever-increasing amount of profit, then government has to work for society as a whole.

Society garners a greater benefit from "for-patient" health care than it does from "for-profit" health care.

I voted for the measure because it is about helping people before profit margins.Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03338682971485143332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23717700.post-19122645703167595232014-10-19T11:59:20.443-07:002014-10-19T11:59:20.443-07:00On Proposition 122 you and I both see an empty pro...On Proposition 122 you and I both see an empty promise for what it is when it is sold to suckers for empty promises. This proposition can offer no benefit unless a governor is willing to go to the mat in defense of the ideals it offers. No Arizona elected Republican in the last 20 years has had the gumption to take a principled stand against the feds in any forum save in front of a camera.

As for Proposition 480. If this were to fund a $935 billion dollar office and manufacturing complex for Dow Chemical you likely would examine it just a bit closer than you did this simply because it is going to be run by the government supposedly for the benefit of the poor (and first responders, let's not forget them).

Is this proposal sized right? Why is it that they didn't offer options given that they are going to build a completely new hospital, two comprehensive health care centers plus assorted other clinics? Are all these new buildings duplicative?

This proposal benefits centralized government health care. Is that the best model to pursue in this day and age of CVS and Walgreen (and dare I say it Walmart) health clinics?

I will vote against this government boondoggle. There is no problem facing Maricopa county for which building HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars of additional government buildings (we have PLENTY already). is the proper course.Thane Eichenauerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12848580360960232789noreply@blogger.com
