In addition, one would have to assume that illegals are spread evenly about the state and I am not sure about that either. I appreciate the seriousness of your respo...Craig,

I appreciate the seriousness of your response. I also concede the fact that MCSO makes it a point to go after illegal immigrants and that skews the stats. However, the effect is minimal for two reasons. First, there are an awful lot of arrests made in Maricopa County and it would take a lot of extra arrests of illegal immigrants to even budge the figure one percentage point. Second, all prisoners in Maricopa County are booked downtown and that includes arrests made by police officers from all other cities and towns, making MCSO's influence on the stats minimal.

In addition, you did not dispute the stronger statistic, which is that while illegal immigrants are believed to only comprise 7.7% of Arizona's population, they make up 14.5% of the inmates in Arizona's prisons and that stat comes from the AZDOC (Go to: http://www.azcorrections.gov/adc/reports/CAG/CAGAug10.pdf). In addition, the illegals in Arizona prisons are not there only because of their immigration status. They are all felons who happen to be illegal immigrants also.John Kavanaghhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04927530020854431196noreply@blogger.com
